NooseBomb was formed in late 2002 when Randy Odierno called his old Grief/Disrupt bandmate Jeff Hayward to let him know that he had just bought a house. Jeff, who had been jamming with several people but was not really having much luck forming a band asked if Randy wanted to jam and if they could rehearse in his basement. Naturally, he jumped at the idea as he had not been doing anything musically for quite a while himself. At first, just the 2 of them rehearsed with Randy on drums and Jeff on guitar and vocals. They jammed on several songs that Jeff had written already, plus some material from an old project band that they had been involved in while in Grief. After a while though, it was obvious that they needed a bass player so Eric Harrison, another ex-Grief member and the person who did the bulk of their artwork, was brought in. They recorded a homemade 4 track demo and were able to score a few gigs with the demo. Their first gig was on May 23, 2003 at OBriens pub in Allston, MA. More gigs were scheduled, but at this time Eric was forced to leave the band due to his work schedule. He left on an amicable basis and remained friends with the other members. The search was on for either a bassist or drummer to fill the void left by Eric’s departure. On a whim, Randy called up drummer Mike Butkiewicz of the death metal band BANE OF EXISTENCE, who he had played bass for a couple of years back, to see if he would join the band at least temporarily as they had a few gigs scheduled that they did not want to cancel. Mike accepted, Randy switched to bass, and the three began rehearsing the current material as well as writing new songs which were a perfect blend of all of their influences and set them apart style-wise from any of their previous bands. Around this time, Randy approached
Gary of Shifty Records and asked him if he would be interested in putting out a full length NooseBomb CD. He accepted and Mike decided that he would stay on as the permanent drummer, while also continuing to play in BOE. The CD, entitled ‘Brain Food For The Braindead" was recorded in November, 2003 in Bill T Miller’s Headroom studio, where Grief and Disrupt recorded the bulk of their early material. It
was released by Shifty in 2004. NooseBomb continues to gig and write material with the current lineup and hopes to record more in the future.
